As many of you will know Matariki is coming up next week with the official holiday being on 14 July. The Matariki whetu (stars) are expected to rise between 10-13 July on the eastern horizon in the morning. The recognition and celebration of Matariki has increased heaps across New Zealand in recent years. There are lots of activities occurring in the Nelson-Tasman region to honour and recognise Matariki and the FB and Insta page Mānawatia a Matariki has some wonderful ideas on how you can embrace the Maori New Year. One of the ways they suggest is to have a shared feast with whanau and friends. A key part of this feast is to celebrate the present, remember the past and plan for the future. At the Nelson Farmers Market we support this simple but heartful acknowledgement of Matariki. Whatever you choose to do, have a wonderful day.
