Neudorf Mushrooms

Hannes and Theres Krummenacher are passionate about mushrooms. They used to forage for them in their home country of Switzerland where foraging for mushrooms in autumn is traditional. Hannes says his parents and their parents before them foraged and when he and theres immigrated to New Zealand in 1998 foraging was one of the things they missed.

They purchased a 53 hectare property in Neudorf, which used to be a deer farm, and set about planting a forest so eventually they could harvest their own mushrooms. Over the years they have planted over 6000 trees and were the first commercial growers in New Zealand of the saffron milk cap mushrooms. These are widely sought after and are sold to restaurants all over New Zealand. Neudorf Mushroom's product range has extended and they now also grow a variety of other mushrooms which they dry and mix together into a wild mushroom mix and other assorted mixes, have a small truffiere with Perigord and Borchii, as well as fresh chestnuts in April and chestnut flour.

Neudorf Mushrooms have been regular stallholders at the Nelson Farmers Market for many years. They really like the concept of people getting fresh products from the people who grow/make them. Theres and Hannes have built a close relationship with many regulars and love seeing customers enjoy their products. They are very proud to supply the UMAMI taste from their forest to your plate as a small family.
